Bhakoo, 0. N., and Scopes, J. W. (1971). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 46, 483. Weight minus extracellular fluid as metabolic reference standard in newborn baby. In 51 babies of differing size and gestational age, rates of oxygen consumption and corrected bromide space (as a measure of extracellular fluid) were measured. The results are used to examine the concept that weight minus extracellular fluid (ECF) is an appropriate metabolic reference standard in the newborn baby. When the whole group, which included large-for-dates and smallfor-dates babies, is considered there is a systematic variation wherein the rate of oxygen consumption thus expressed varies with size. However, when appropriately grown babies only are considered, who varied in birthweight from 1210 g to 3820 g,

متن کاملA technique of metabolic balance study in the newborn baby.
The nutritional requirements of a living body can be studied by the method of metabolic balance, the intakes of certain chosen constituents of the diet being measured and compared with the output of these elements in urine and faeces or loss in discharges during the same period of time. There are a number of well-recognized disadvantages to this method which arise both from difficulties in its ...

Ante/neonatal Bartter syndrome (BS) is a rare hereditary disorder. It is characterized by renal salt wasting, hypokalaemic metabolic alkalosis, high renin and aldosterone but normal blood pressure. We report a low birth weight newborn baby who presented with repeated apnoea shortly after birth as well as hyponatraemia, hypochloraemia, hyperkalaemia and metabolic acidosis. Her biochemical featur...

Background Current strategies based on random selection of MII-oocytes to fertilize appear unsatisfactory in selecting the best number and the most vital oocytes to fertilize especially in poor responder women in which “chronological age” does not mismatch with “biological age”. The metabolomics- profiling approach, evaluating the final products of cell regulatory process (genome/transcriptome/...
